G. L. Plaa was born in San Francisco, and became a toxicologist studying at the U of California. He came to Canada in 1968, joining the faculty of U. Montréal, where he has served as chairman of the Dept. of Pharmacology and vice-dean of the Faculty of Medicine. He is currently director of a research centre in toxicology in Montréal.
